UNITY

Has it ever occurred to you that one hundred pianos all tuned to the same fork are automatically tuned to each other? They are of one accord by being tuned, not to each other, but to another standard to which each one must individually bow. So one hundred worshipers [meeting] together, each one looking away to Christ, are in heart nearer to each other than they could possibly be, were they to become “unity” conscious and turn their eyes away from God to strive for closer fellowship. Social religion is perfected when private religion is purified.

So unity for me is not some blind allegiance to figures who claim to speak for me and my faith in the public square, rather I am unified in fellowship with other believers who claim Christ crucified and risen.

Does God Hate Religion?

God Hates Religion? 

RELIGION: a set of beliefs concerning the cause, nature, and purpose of the
universe, esp. when considered as the creation of a superhuman agency or agencies, usually involving devotional and ritual observances, and often containing a moral code governing the conduct of human affairs.   

In that context I doubt it's true that God hates religion, rather I strongly suspect he loathes false religions, or religious beliefs perverted to the cause of darkness.
