During it's recent coverage of the U.S. Open Golf Tournament, NBC broadcast a video of children reciting the Pledge of Allegiance with the words "under God" edited out.
Now this was so boneheaded on so many levels that it almost defies imagination. Did the NBC people just come out from under a rock? The outrage machines of both the left and the right are in a state of constant readiness, prepared to leap into action at the slightest provocation, could they seriously not have anticipated the self righteous indignation and ensuing firestorm of criticism given the current state of affairs? It's the Pledge of Allegiance for crying out loud, and furthermore, the words you chose to edit out were "under God"? Why not take a stand against motherhood and apple pie while you're at it?
So now the outrage machines are in full-throated roar demanding that heads must roll, protests are in the planning stage, petitions are circulated, and politicians are working the incident for money and votes. In the meantime it's illegal to own a Bible or pray together in Uzbekistan, somewhere in this world a Christian dies for his beliefs every five minutes, churches are torched and looted in the Sudan, and turmoil continues for Christians in Tunisia.
